Description of program
Do you have an eye for good design? Do you value the stability of the structures that we rely on? With today's technology and equipment, you'll learn and master skills in everything from blueprint reading to the construction of a small building.
The Skills Center Construction Technology course will prepare students to work in the construction industry, as well as offering them an opportunity to further their education in an apprenticeship program or specialized field.
What will I do in this program?
- Basic tool identification and usage
- Materials measuring and estimating
- Blueprint reading
- Flooring and ceiling construction
- Walls, partitions, and roof construction
- Masonry
- Remodeling techniques
- Basic wiring techniques
- Job safety
Some skills you will learn:
- Learn about equipment use and safety
- Use hand and power tools
- Read blueprints
- Work on carpentry and wood construction methods
- Find out about construction project management
- Estimate building projects
- Construct walls
- Roof and plumb simple projects
- Learn about building codes
- Find out more about electrical and heating systems
