Everything you ever wanted to know about inspecting, maintaining, and repairing a car, you can learn at Spokane Skills Center. From brake and inspection systems, to electrical, you can learn what you need to about your car's performance.
Get the skills and certification needed to land entry-level jobs right out of high school. Become certified and work toward college credits through the Automotive Technology program at the Skills Center.
What will I do in this program?
While learning how to repair today's high-tech vehicles, you will gain the skills required to work in the automotive industry. Learn to:

Typical first year: (19 credits available)
AUTO 111 Theory of Brakes (3cr)
AUTO 112 Theory and Application of Brake Repair (4cr)
AUTO 131 Principles of Suspension Systems (4cr)
AUTO 132 Service and Repair of Suspension Systems (5cr)
AUTO 267 OR HEQ 267 Cooperative Education Work Experience (3cr)
Students that earn AUTO 111, 112, 131 and 132 are eligible for the Brakes and Suspension Certificate:
This short-term certificate provides students with both theory and practical lab applications in automotive brake, suspension and hydraulic systems. Students gain experience in the diagnosis and repair of the following systems and components: master cylinder and hydraulic systems, drum and disc brakes, parking brakes, machining of brake drums and rotors, power brake units, and anti-lock brake systems.
Typical second year: (19 credits available - a little tougher, students must pass AYES or ASE for electronics credits)
AUTO 115 Theory of Electronics and Accessories (4cr)
AUTO 116 Diagnosis of Electronics and Accessories (5cr)
AUTO 215 Advanced Theory of Electronics and Accessories (3cr)
AUTO 216 Advanced Diagnosis of Electronics and Accessories (4cr)
AUTO 267 OR HEQ 267 Cooperative Education Work Experience (3cr)
Students that earn AUTO 115, 116, 215, and 216 are eligible for the Electronics/Electrical Certificate. This short-term certificate program introduces students to basic electrical concepts including Ohm's Law, magnetism, analog and digital meters, and test equipment. Students gain practical shop experience in the testing of such equipment as test lamps, voltmeters and ammeters. Hookup and testing of electronics and electrical components and circuits also are included.
