Description of program
Everything you ever wanted to know about inspecting, maintaining, and repairing a car, you can learn at Spokane Skills Center. From brake and inspection systems, to electrical, you can learn what you need to about your car's performance.
Get the skills and certification needed to land entry-level jobs right out of high school. Become certified and work toward college credits through the Automotive Technology program at the Skills Center.
What will I do in this program?
While learning how to repair today's high-tech vehicles, you will gain the skills required to work in the automotive industry. Learn to:
- Diagnose and repair a variety of electronic/electrical systems.
- Read wiring diagrams and repair manuals, applying what you've learned to a vehicle.
- Read meters and computer diagnostic equipment.
- Read and interpret wave form patterns from oscilloscope and lab scopes.
- Balance wheels, lubricate moving parts,
You'll be given time to learn each task at your own speed and ability, and perfect each skill through repetition and practice on a vehicle.
As part of the Automotive Youth Educational Systems (AYES), offered through the Automotive Technology class, this could be the fast track to your career:
- Learn scientific concepts driving today's sophisticated vehicles
- Perfect your skills using state-of-the-art tools and diagnostic repair equipment
- Participate in the mentor program working with a technician on a job site

- Vehicle maintenance
- Brake Systems
- Suspension and Steering Systems
- Electrical
- Fueling and Cooling Systems
- Wheel Alignment
- Check fluid levels, change oil
- Shop safety
- Industry experience
- Engine performance
