MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY RECEIVES $25,000 GRANT!

The Skills Center’s new Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program for high school students is the first of its kind in Washington State. Being a pilot program and with the state of educational funding, providing the equipment needed for this type of occupation has been a real challenge. Kathleen Cameron, program instructor, has been actively working with local organizations and medical suppliers to assist with attaining donations. The biggest deficiency has been microscopes, crucial to a laboratory science program.

No more!! The MLT program was a recent recipient of the Boeing Corporation’s “Flight to the Future” grant supporting applied sciences in the classroom. The full $25,000 grant was awarded to the Skills Center for the purchase of new binocular teaching microscopes and supportive equipment & supplies. EXCITEMENT reigns! With the energy generated by the infusion of technology and teaching tools, the program continues to move toward becoming a stellar opportunity for students interested in medical laboratory sciences.
